In advance of the 2020 Presidential election, Shinola released a red, white, and blue watch and chose to use our platform to encourage our audience to get out and vote. We partnered with I am a Voter to provide resources and encourage our followers to make an Election Day voting plan.

Instead of models, we photographed the watch on local folks who embody democratic ideals—an election day poll worker, a veteran, and a community organizer. We leased a billboard in downtown Detroit and used the space to offer an easy opt-in text messaging service to connect voters with localized information.

We also worked with the artist Alexander John to created limited edition, one-of-a-kind custom straps, and donated the proceeds to the Detroit Piston’s “Get in the Game: VOTE!” initiative.

Young Voters

On Instagram, we hosted a series of conversations between young voters and seasoned educators and community activists, focusing on the specific experience and history of voting rights and restrictions in marginalized communities. We wanted to open up our audience (which skews older, wealthier, and white) to a variety of viewpoints that might not normally appear on their social feed.
